
ABOUT TH&E SOCIETY
Our Story
Founded in 2016, the UQ Tourism, Hospitality, and Events Society has steadfastly pursued its primary objective: to enhance the student experience through the organization of a diverse spectrum of industry and social events. Commencing with a modest group of 50 members in 2016, our society has experienced substantial growth, presently boasting a membership of over 230 individuals in 2023—an indicative measure of its profound impact within the student community.


Our commitment revolves around affording students invaluable practical experiences, a real world insight into industry operations. We coordinate visits to global brands, with Emporium, Sofitel, Marriott, and W to name a few, providing students with a firsthand understanding of the operations of these renowned 5-star entities. We also facilitate we facilitate opportunities to understand the behind working of event planning and management, with visits to prominent venues like QPC, Suncorp Stadium, Parliament House, and Customs House. These experiences are strategically tailored to enlighten students to the real workings of the industry.
A pivotal annual event in our calendar is the TH&E Society Networking Night. It is a distinguished occasion that brings together professionals from a wide range of disciplines, from tourism organizations, event management to luxury hotels. This platform facilitates meaningful interactions for students, able to create a wide range of connections with real world organizations, learning about the resulting in lasting connections and, in some instances, employment opportunities.


TH&E Society recognizes the importance of fostering a sense of community among students, connecting with like-minded, passionate students. To this end, we curate a variety of social events throughout the year, aimed at bringing together a sense of belonging. From themed Trivia and Movie Nights to Coffee Catchups and other recreational activities, these events provide students with opportunities to connect with their peers in an informal setting
